REVIEW

 Liensinine (neferine), a isoquinoline alkaloid, extracted from the green seed embryo of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn has been shown to have anti-arrhythmic action, its mechanism may be related to blockade of Ca2+ and Na+ influx. Liensinene has also shown a potential neuroprotective effect in rats, in regard to focal cerebral ischemia, whereby liensinen inhibited the expression of C-Fos, which significantly increased after 24-h ischemia without the treatment of the compound.
