REVIEW
 Oxymatrine is a quinolizidine alkaloid extracted from the dried root of Sophora flavescens, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb. It has many beneficial effects including protection against apoptosis, tumor and fibrotic tissue development, and inflammation. Furthermore, oxymatrine has been shown to decrease cardiac ischemia, myocardial injury, and arrhythmias, and improve heart failure by increasing cardiac function.
