REVIEW

Hexadecylpyridinium chloride is a heavily and widely used quaternary (cationic) nitrogen based antiseptic, disinfect or germicide. Hexadecylpyridinium chloride in mouth wash represents an effective agent for halitosis reduction by inhibiting the growth and suppressing the expression of specific genes related to volatile sulfur compounds production in anaerobic periodontal pathogens, and other aspects of oral hygine.
