REVIEW Doxapram HCl is an analeptic agent (a stimulant of the central nervous system), a central respiratory stimulant with a brief duration of action. It produces respiratory stimulation mediated through the peripheral carotid chemoreceptors. Therefore, it is used in intensive care settings to stimulate the respiratory rate in patients with respiratory failure.
