REVIEW
 Suplatast tosilate is an orally-active, racemic Th2 cytokine inhibitor used as an antiallergic drug for asthma. It down-regulates the functions of CD4+ T cells, suppresses the infiltration of inflammatory cells into lung tissues and prevents the expression of airway hyperresponsiveness which would lead to asthma. It attenuates IL-2, IL-5 and IL-13 production and has no effect on IFN-gamma production. It acts as an immunoregulator that suppresses IgE production, eosinophil infiltration and histamine release. It also xhibits antiasthmatic, anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic activity in vivo.
