BIOLOGICAL INFO
Application(s):
Type 3 pyridine phosphodiesterase inhibitor
REVIEW Amrinone is a type 3 pyridine phosphodiesterase inhibitor and positive inotropic cardiotonic with vasodilator properties, and the ability to stimulate calcium ion influx into the cardiac cell. Amrinone is used in the treatment of congestive heart failure. It decreases the pulmonary capillary wedge pressure while increasing cardiac output because it functions as an arterial vasodilator and increases venous capacitance while decreasing venous return. There is a net decrease in myocardial wall tension, and O2 consumption when using amrinone.
