REVIEW Rifaximin is a semisynthetic analog of rifamycin with poor absorptivity. Rifaximin selectively inhibits (E. coli, B subtilis) bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase by mechanism similar to rifabutin, beta subunit binding.
