REVIEW Sodium taurocholate dehydrate the salt of Taurocholic acid, which is a bile acid and is the product of conjugation of cholic acid with taurine. Bile acids are steroid acids found predominantly in bile of mammals. They modulate bile flow and lipid secretion, are essential for the absorption of dietary fats and vitamins, and have been implicated in the regulation of all the key enzymes involved in cholesterol homeostasis. It is used as a cholagogue and cholerectic (a bile purging agent).
