REVIEW
 Secnidazole (trade names Flagentyl, Sindose, Secnil) is a nitroimidazole anti-infective, an is widely used in the treatment of amoebiasis, giardiasis and genital infections due to Trichomonas vaginalis. Secnidazole demonstrates excellent activity against anaerobic bacteria similar to that of metronidazole. The compound has also been shown to be effective against dientamoebiasis and Atopobium vaginae. The mode of action of secnidazole involove reduction of the nitra and subsequent DNA strand breakage at concentrations easily attainable during routine drug administration, but which only occurs after reduction of the nitro group.
