REVIEW Estramustine is a chemotherapy agent used to treat prostate cancer. It primarily functions as an anti-mitotic agent. It is a derivative of estradiol with a nitrogen mustard-carbamate ester moiety, giving it alkylating properties. In vivo, it can alkylate DNA and other cellular components, leading to apoptosis. Due to its estrogen component, it can bind more selectively to active estrogen receptors.
