REVIEW

Aminoguanidine hydrochloride also known Pimagedine has been shown to be an effective agent in reducing the severity of the structural and functional alterations associated with experimental diabetic nephropathy (end stage kidney failure). The compound is an inhibitor of diamine oxidase and inducible nitric oxide synthase (an enzyme that underlies injury associated with intestinal inflammation). It acts to reduce levels of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) through interacting with 3-deoxyglucosone.
