REVIEW Glycerol 3-phosphate is produced from Glycerol, the triose sugar backbone of triglycerides and glycerophospholipids, by the enzyme glycerol kinase. Glycerol 3-phosphate shuttle is used to rapidly regenerate NAD+ in brain and skeletal muscle cells of mammals.
