REVIEW

Stachydrine, a pyrrolidine betaine natural product was isolated from seed husk and the pulp of the fruit of Capparis tomentosa, the fruits of Capparis moonii and Leonurus sibiricus a number of other Asian plants and fruits. Leonurus sibiricus has been used in clinics to reduce postpartum hemorrhage with low toxicity and high efficiency as well as to promote blood circulation and dispel blood stasis. The major component of this traditional medicine is the stachydrine which was shown to induce the Th1/Th2/Th17/Treg paradigm which contributed to the reduction in uterine bleeding in RU486-induced abortion mice. Stachydrine has also been shown to be a potent anti-metastatic agent, which can markedly inhibit the malignancy and invasive capacity of malignant cancer cells.
