REVIEW Sulbactam pivoxyl is an orally available prodrugged ester of sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. This drug is given in combination with beta-lactam antibiotics to inhibit beta-lactamase, an enzyme produced by bacteria that destroys the antibiotics.
